Appleby Manor Hotel & Garden Spa

Visited here yesterday on route to York and so glad we did. We were booked in for the two hour thermal journey with light afternoon tea package. The spa facilities are lovely, very clean and well thought out. We finished slightly earlier than the two hours but no issue just heading up for our lunch. The food was lovely and the environment stunning. We will definitely return to this beautiful hotel.

Beautiful hotel and facilities in a great location. We arrived a little early, checked in, and we were asked to make ourselves comfortable until the room was ready. Great. Bearing in mind, my husband is 75, and I am nearly 70, we were allocated a room up in the attics with no lift and very difficakt staircase to negotiate. We didn't realise until we'd lugged the cases and felt the room was not suitable. After a stressful start, and speaking to reception, she took everything on board and relocated us to a much nicer and more accessible room. Big shout out to Erin, who gave me a wonderful back nassage, facial and head massage . She was knowledgeable and attentive - the best 👌 The spa facilities were very relaxing. The evening meal was absolutely delicious and quite honestly exceeded our expectations. We had booked on a gift voucher scheme, which also included a pre dinner drink All in all, it was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay. Appleby is very pleasant to wander around, especially the riverside path

Excellent spa experience, clean and well presented rooms and lovely food. Couldn’t fault anything. Minor improvement would be a swimsuit dryer or access to plastic bags for wet swimwear. The hotel was very warm throughout which is not a bad thing for Cumbria in Autumn. Staff were very good, friendly and attentive

Our room was ready,even though we arrived early to use the spa,we were shown our room,which I was very happy with.We used the spa which was very luxurious and the staff were very helpful We then had a lovely evening meal of chicken supreme and my husband had curry as we decided not to go into the village as it kept raining. Breakfast was lovely with lots of choice and all the staff were very helpful.We were also advised local things to see and do in the area.We would visit again as very happy with everything on our stay.

From the moment you enter the Manor you feel totally relaxed and at peace .Everything about the hotel ticked all our boxes, Room clean spacious and perfect temperature .Evening meal was delicious , well presented and definitely plentiful. After a peace sleep we experienced the spa . This could not be faulted .The manager of the spa was happy to recommend products and treatments . Breakfast was perfection too . The biggest accolade is the entire staff .Not a single person could be singled out as each and everyone went beyond the call of duty to do everything to make our stay exceptional. I like the was everything is sourced locally and air miles are kept to an absolute minimum. The is indefinite no corporate chain .This is a family run business and it shows . Everyone is working with the same goal . Customer satisfaction and that can not be bettered . Exceptional value for money . Really looking back to a return visit .

We were looking for a special spa package and came across Appleby Manor. They have several day and overnight packages, and we chose their "Decadance" package. Upon arrival we were welcomed very warmly by the receptionist, Alison. She was pleasant and friendly and offered us a room upgrade, which all made the checking in process enjoyable and smooth. It took a bit of time to get used to the rabbit warren of corridors and staircases, but this adds character. Once we found our room, it was peaceful and quiet. The room itself was spacious, well furnished and clean. The tea/coffee tray was stocked with a wide variety of teas, coffees, hot chocolate and herbal teas also. The spa also was excellent. It was obviously very well thought out when it was built as its excellently placed, and the facilities in the spa are also well placed. I also like the fact that you have to book your slot for access. That way its never 'busy', even if the hotel is full. It's relaxing when there are just a few couples in the spa rather than it being crammed with people. I was also impressed that you can enjoy drinks in the spa area too. It was lovely to be able to have a glass of bubbly whilst your relaxing in the bubbly. As part of our Decadance package, we had a 2-hr treatment each. I want to say a big thank you to Libby and Erin who treated us. They were very accommodating and cheerful. It's hard to find massage therapists who aren't botoxed, with fake tan and lashes, who barely say 5 words to you. These girls were anything but. They were welcoming, friendly girls, who were knowledgeable and did an excellent job. It was a very pleasant experience from start to finish. The restaurant was also lovely. The food delicious and the service/staff were very friendly and chatty. The views out of the back are breathtaking and the staff make a conscious effort to seat their diners by the back window. Even if it means more walking for them. Was a bit surprised, given the fine dining, that the staff didn't seem to have much knowledge of the proper cutlery for requirements. For example, we weren't provided with steak knives with the lamb chops, and were given a spoon with a brownie, not a fork. I know this may seem picky, but for me, it's an expectation that comes with the standard of dining for the staff to be trained in these matters. It wouldn't be noticeable in a more casual restaurant, but as it's marketing itself as fine dining, the service expectation is higher. Having said that, the quality of the food was outstanding and definitely met expectation. The chef deserves big commendation for the quality and attention to detail in his meals. The hotel as a whole deserves to be a 4* hotel, for the above reasons given. Having said that there were a few things that could be improved - a few small things missing you would not expect in a 4* hotel. Things like a box of tissues in the room, and the low water pressure in the shower. The tiling and decoration was done to perfection,
